What I’m doing now

(This is a now page, and if you have your own site, you should make one, too.)

Updated May 29th, 2023, from my home in Wellington, New Zealand.

Useful not true

I’m fascinated with this subject of choosing beliefs that are useful to me now, not caring if they’re true. So fascinated I’ve this is my next book — a dive into this subject so I can learn what others have thought around this and think deeper about it myself.

  1. Almost nothing is objectively true. Disprove limiting mindsets.
  2. Rules and norms are arbitrary games that can be changed.
  3. Beliefs are placebos. Believe whatever works for you.
  4. Refuse ideology. Accept ideas individually.

Tech Independence

I’ve spent 50+ hours on this tutorial teaching everyone how to have their own server. It’s at sive.rs/ti.

Prioritizing strength and fitness

Almost every day I go on a very sweaty 2-hour hike through the hilly forest. 300 meters up, down, up, down. Usually just walking in silence, thinking, reflecting. But sometimes listening to some Great Courses in philosophy. Then when I get home, I hang upside-down a bit.

Three times a week, weight lifting with 5x5 approach. Drinking protein powder with chia seeds and psyllium husks.

Donated $100K to charity

That felt good. Details here.

All podcast time slots booked

Every Wednesday morning I am a guest on someone’s podcast. But these slots are all booked up through October now. So sorry I’m not booking any more until “Useful Not True” is released.

My kid wants to learn how to make money

My kid (age 11) came home from school excited for once, saying they’re learning entrepreneurship. So he wants my help to teach him how to make money. This will be interesting for me to remember what I’ve learned so I can share it, and re-learn from the beginning, together with him.
