Met 2024-07-13 11:00 at La Colina Hotel: Calle 150 #78-46, Suba, Bogotá, Colombia.

Got into Game Maker, which led to programming, a CS major, and competitive programming.

Did Elasticsearch at Stripe. Downside of loving programming while working at a big company is it can kind of kill your love for programming, since you're looking at a screen all day long, so when you get home you want to do something else.

Built a habit tracker called Mati with social features, often shared with friends for accountability or just sharing achievement. Downside to social is once you have photos, then people feel a need to make nice photos instead of just accountability photos.

He's 28. Lived in Seattle for three years, and hated it. People are friendly but hard to become real friends. He thought he hated Colombia but was so happy to come back. The main thing missing is the safety net or feeling of safety.

Wants to learn Ruby on Rails. We talked programming, complexity, overkill, barebones versus frameworks, big companies versus solo projects, perverse incentives for using the newest technologies, Flutter for mobile dev.
