Oscar Aldomá

Met 2024-07-14 13:00 at Magnolia Hotel: Julián Álvarez 1746, Palermo Soho, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Oscar is a meticulous learner of English, and passing certification tests.

He shared so many stories and insights. He lives farther away on the coast, and works in a job where he feels like the only one with a work ethic. The government keeps people in jobs whether they work or not, so most people feel no incentive to work hard.

Argentina is so individualistic that there's no sense of doing things to make your community/city/country a better place. Everyone's out for themselves. In Uruguay and Chile people have more of a sense of community, even patriotism, and therefore seem to care about their work more. I had never considered this before: the upside of patriotism, caring about your country so much that you work hard to make it better, even if no direct gain for yourself.

Unfortunately my voice recorder lost the recording, so I don't remember the details.
