Kiubon Kokko

Mother from Haikou. Dad swam to Hong Kong from Mainland China to escape the Cultural Revolution. Parents met here but moved to America where they had friends in Ohio. But those friends took their money and ran away to California, so parents are still living in Ohio with low-skill jobs. Kiubon was born and raised in Ohio, went to college in Clairmont California, then lived in Yosemite for 9 months, then backpacking around Europe for 6 months, before taking a job here in Hong Kong in 2023. Leaving in six months to go to grad school in Texas for film. We talked about relationships with parents. Hong Kong is PTSD from so many recent huge changes, and divided with Yellow (黃色 pro-democracy) and Blue (藍色 pro-establishment). Four groups that don't mingle: (1) locals (2) expats (3) mainlanders (4) domestic helpers.
