Dave Avran

Fascinating guy. We first met in 2011 at a conference here, and took 15 years to meet again.

He used to ride motorcycles in a group, then one day the group leader rode into an invisible barbed wire, then when he crashed, they all crashed, and Dave was tossed off his bike and into a coma for many weeks. Nerve damage and cornea damage, so doctor prescribed steroids which messed him up for a long time, and took Ayurvedic medicine intervention to finally fix, and Vitamin C shots directly into his spine.

He worked in hotel management for many years, and the steroids messed with his sleep, so he became a workaholic and a hell of a manager. He still hardly sleeps.

Talked a lot about government corruption and theft, the cause and root of it. “You see a $20 bill on the ground. Someone is coming behind you. Your first instinct is to leave it for its original owner, but if you don’t take it, the next guy will.”

Chinese investment in Malaysia is diminishing because the current government is too unpredictable.

He also raves about Kuching and will probably move there.
