Abby Lo
Abby was both researcher and writer of my Wood Egg Malaysia Startup Guide in 2013, but this was our first time meeting face-to-face.
She brought her 10-year-old son, who was a joy to play billiards with.
Dad from Malaysia moved to England for university, and met her mom from England.
Parents moved back to Kota Kinabalu Malaysia when she and her siblngs were born.
But at age 7, mom moved all the kids back to England, so Abby grew up in England from age 7-20.
She has a wonderful British accent.
She felt stagnant (at work, looking at her manager, realized she doesn’t want this life), so she moved back to Malaysia as an adult, so now feels not-quite-a-fit in either place, but more clicking with Malaysia culture, though she doesn’t speak Malay.
We also talked about mixed-race kids and solo parenting.
She’s now doing operations, training AIs, and loves it. Self-employed.
