Ömer and I have emailed since 2014 when he was age 22 in design school.
Now at 34, he’s a professional designer.
Best client is in Dubai, doing kitchens.
He’d like to design a restaurant some day.
He used to want to get out of Tűrkiye, but as time goes on, he really appreciates the quality of life here in Istanbul and it feels like home.
He wonders about moving to Europe, not a huge desire, but maybe mitigating future regret if he doesn’t.
The coup attempt made things bad for a while and he was even held in a jail for a couple days because long ago he donated a small amount of money to an organization that later was affiliated with the coup people.
But the guards were nice about it, and let him go when the misunderstanding was cleared up.
